Background:
- The State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Program (SEEARP). a part of the American
Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), is designed to save energy by encouraging
appliance replacement with Energy Star products through consumer rebates. - Since the funding allocation for the Alaska program is $658,000 (about one dollar per
Alaskan resident), the plan approved by the US Department of Energy on December 1.
2009, focuses on applying the rebates to Alaskans with disabilities. The program is
designed so virtually all funding will go toward rebates. Organizations serving disabled
Alaskans were contacted to assist with program development. Rebates for rural Alaskans
with disabilities are larger because of the much higher cost of purchasing and shipping
appliances to rural areas.
