Second Annual Youth Policy Summit
February 13-15, 2012

The Youth Policy Summit invites youth ages 18-24 who have been involved with the state’s social services system (foster care, substance abuse and/or mental health treatment, residential psychiatric treatment, OCS, homeless services, etc.), to Juneau to share their experiences with legislators and policymakers. This event is hosted by the Alaska Mental Health Board and Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, in collaboration with Alaska’s Bring the Kids Home Initiative, through a grant from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority.

2010 NSDUH Data Shows Unchanged
Drug Use Among Young Adults

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reveals that rates of drug use reported by youth aged 18-25 has changed little – or increased slightly – since 2002. The 2010 rate of current illicit drug use among young adults increased from 19.6 percent in 2008 to 21.2 percent in 2009 and 21.5 percent in 2010, driven largely by an increase in marijuana use (from 16.5 percent in 2008 to 18.1 percent in 2009 and 18.5 percent in 2010). The rate of current non-medical use of prescription-type drugs in 2010 was 5.9 percent, similar to the rate in the years from 2002 to 2009.
